Wide Range of Development and Training Media and Methods

There is no single 'universal' training solution to all business problems and needs. The solutions we provide may combine any number of training methods and approaches. Each solution will have its own unique mix of consultancy, training design and/or training delivery, depending on what you require. DBA has been offering blended learning solutions for many years, even before the term acquired such prominence.

Whatever your problem or need, we have the flexibility and skills to create the best combination of training services to meet it. To put together a unique package which is right for you and your organisation, we may use all or any from the full range of training media and methods available.

Trainer-supported Learning Processes

We design and facilitate training programmes to include elements of group and individual training as appropriate. Content and style are individually designed to meet specific customer need and may include:

  • half day, one day, or multiple day workshops or training sessions/events
  • coaching and/or individual development programmes
  • tutor-supported self-study courses.

Video-based Learning Materials

Using video can be an effective way to:

  • spark interest
  • stimulate discussion of issues
  • model required behaviours.

When we use video as part of our training solution we manage the entire production process, from script writing through to video duplication.

Video packages we have worked on include a number of best-selling or award-winning productions for the generic training market.

E-Learning Materials

E-learning materials are an effective way to:

  • maximise the use of internal intranets
  • provide cost-effective, learner-centred training solutions
  • deliver training on key issues quickly and effectively to large numbers of people
  • enable training to take place simultaneously across various locations
  • support and assist self-study and self-development programmes.
  • keep content updated rapidly
  • provide training and development to shift or part-time workers

If your training solution calls for some e-learning elements we can manage all aspects of the design process, from inception through to software installation and technical support by:

  • writing the learning content
  • designing the on-screen look
  • developing the interactive structures
  • piloting or beta testing the materials
  • helping to install the materials
  • providing up to three months' free on-line technical support to users.

Text-based Learning Materials

Where appropriate, we design and produce complete programme materials for our clients. Such materials may include:

  • programme with aims and objectives
  • session notes and guidelines
  • preparation checklists
  • tutor guidance notes
  • activity briefings
  • handouts and other visual aids
  • evaluation instruments.

Where appropriate, we may also provide training for client trainers in how to manage and deliver these materials effectively. We have lengthy experience of developing material to be used by line managers and other 'non trained' trainers.

We also design and develop complete self-study materials, in all media, text and e-learning. These can be used by learners without the need for tutor or trainer support. Such materials enable organisations to deliver training simultaneously to a wide learning population across a large number of sites.

We have the facilities and expertise to manage all aspects of text materials design and production, from writing and page design through to print production of the finished product.

Blended Learning Solutions

Our experience in developing the full range of training and developments materials means that we can develop effective blended learning solutions which maximise the effectiveness of a range of traditional and e-learning approaches.

Our Eight Stage Process

We generally work within an eight stage process. This process is effective whether we are commissioned to carry out the whole assignment or whether we work collaboratively with the clients. The stages are:

  • Stage 1 - Identifying Client Need/Problem
    • needs analysis
    • researching the organization and its vision, values and circumstances
    • using interviews, questionnaires, focus groups
    • clarifying understanding
    • agreeing success criteria and key stakeholder expectations
    • contracting.

  • Stage 2 - Proposing Solution/Approach
    • considering need/problem
    • identifying delivery requirements and limitations
    • considering all implications including stakeholders and their expectations
    • designing and agreeing success factors and evaluation criteria
    • submitting detailed proposal for action
    • agreeing degree of skills transfer required for client staff
    • agreeing how our input is to be sustained after our withdrawal from the assignment
    • agreeing share/spread of responsibility between us and client personnel.
  • Stage 3 - Collecting, Analysing and Reporting on Findings
    • hard and soft data
    • range of research and analysis techniques
    • full range of communication media (as appropriate)
    • involving sponsor and all stake holders
    • recommending approach including evaluation criteria and success factors.
  • Stage 4 - Agreeing a Project Plan
    • specifying timescale and milestones
    • agreeing outputs
    • identifying success factors
    • agreeing responsibilities and inputs
    • team building
    • establishing partnership working ground rules.
  • Stage 5 - Designing Material/Solution/Approach
    • choosing correct media/approach
    • designing and delivering tutor led or other appropriate solutions or working with individuals/managers/boards
    • submitting drafts and agreeing with client
    • designing, writing and producing components
    • agreeing sign-off with client.
  • Stage 6 - Testing/Pilot Solution/Beta Testing
    • representative selection
    • evaluating results
    • adjusting material/approach as needed.
  • Stage 7 - Implementing Validated Solution
    • managing production through print, video or disk or e-learning methods as appropriate
    • implementing the solution ourselves, or enabling client staff to implement
    • briefing or training (as appropriate) client trainers in the client organization
    • helping with evaluation
    • updating as needed
    • skills transfer confirmed
    • programmes/approaches for sustaining the assignment effectively in place.

  • Stage 8 - Project Review/Evaluation
    • identification of important learning which has happened
    • planning of improvement issues
    • evaluating the intervention at Levels 1, 2 and 3 (4 if required).

Issues Important to Working in Partnership With a client

We have considerable experience of working within a partnership approach with a range of Public and Private Sector Organizations. That and other experience gained, for example, in my national role with the Distributive Industry Training Board and on earlier DBA projects, has provided valuable insights on a range of aspects related to successful partnership working and joint delivery of identified outputs.
